
Visa-Free Travel To Indonesia
On June 9, 2015, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has signed the President Regulation Number 69 of 2015 concerning Visa-Free Travel (“President Regulation No. 69/2015”). Under this new regulation, the Indonesian Government offers short-term, visa-free travel to Indonesia for visitors originating from 30 (thirty) foreign countries, in addition to those originating from 15 (fifteen) foreign countries who has previously enjoyed the benefits of visa-free travel to Indonesia.
The purpose of such policy from the Indonesian Government is to benefit our country’s national development, of which Visa-Free regulations are one of the methods utilized to improve the numbers of foreign tourists travelling to Indonesia, which will improve the amount of our national proceeds.
However, we understand that President Regulation No. 69/2015 has regulated some limitations in order to protect the sovereignty of Indonesia in regards of the visa-free travel policy. Therefore, we will explain some of those limitations in this article.
Visitors Eligible for Visa-Free Travel to Indonesia
I. The following are the 30 (thirty) countries of which the foreign nationals can only enter Indonesia without visa, for tourism purposes:

II. The following are the 15 (fifteen) countries of which the foreign nationals can enter Indonesia without visa, for governmental duty, education, socio-culture, tourism, business, family, journalism purposes and/or for transit to other countries:

Indonesian Immigration Procedure for Visa-Free Visitors
Visitors originating from 30 (thirty) countries as mentioned in Point I above can only enter Indonesian territory from Fixed Immigration Checkpoints, as regulated in Appendix I President Regulation 69/2015. Those checkpoints are:
- Immigration Checkpoints at Airports:
- Soekarno Hatta, Tangerang;
- Ngurah Rai, Bali;
- Kualanamu, Medan;
- Juanda, Surabaya; and
- Hang Nadim, Batam.
- Immigration Checkpoints at Ports:
- Sri Bintan;
- Sekupang;
- Batam Center; and
- Tanjung Uban.
Visitors originating from 15 (fifteen) countries as mentioned above in Point II can enter Indonesian territory from any Immigration Checkpoints in Indonesia.
Limited Stay Period for Visitors
Visitors originating from 45 (forty five) exempted from visa obligations has a limted time period to stay in Indonesia. The period is 30 (thirty) days maximum, which cannot be extended or converted to other types of Limited Stay Permit.
Visitors originating from the 45 (forty five) countries mentioned above who plan to visit Indonesia for purposes other than the ones regulated, and/or are going to stay in Indonesia for more than 30 (thirty) days will have to apply for Visa by the regular procedure in the Indonesian Embassy in their origin countries.
